Whatman™ Membrane Filters
By Schleicher & SchuellThese membrane filters, made of pure cellulose, cellulose derivatives and other polymers, have a highly porous nonfibrous structure. Pores are uniform in size and occupy 60 to 80% of the total filter volume. Membrane filters have a high flow rate and efficient retention for specific-sized particles.
S & S filters are available in these primary types:
- Nitrocellulose, AE and BA grades
- Cellulose acetate, OE grade
- PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), TE grade
- Nylon
- Mixed esters of cellulose
Available in a variety of pore sizes for specific applications, and in four diameters to fit different size filter holders. Membranes have limited storage stability and should be used within 12 months. Filtration with membranes must be carried out under vacuum or pressure.
S & S Cellulose Acetate Membranes:
Greater wet strength than nitrocellulose filters, with minimal swelling. Specifically designed for filtering oils, alcohols and pharmaceuticals.
Grade OE66 is used to sterile filter alcohol solutions and ointment bases and for tissue culture and sterility testing.
Use Grade OE67 for scintillation analysis, nitrogen-free analysis, radiation immunization testing and disinfectant control.
