Penetratin™ 1 Peptide
By MP BiomedicalsPenetratin™ 1 Peptide
Novel tool for gene targeting
- Internalize peptides and oligonucleotides
- Low concentrations are required for internalization (1.25 - 20 µM)
- Internalized with all cell types tested
- Convey coupled molecules directly to the cytoplasm and nucleus of the cell
- Simple coupling procedure for peptides and oligonucleotides containing a free thiol group
- Mild internalization procedure ensures high survival rate compared to other methods
Penetratin™ 1 is a patented 16-amino acid peptide corresponding to the third helix of the homeodomain of antennapedeia protein. This peptide is able to translocate across biological membranes by an energy-independent mechanism and has been used successfully to internalize covalently attached peptides and oligonucleotides and to convey them to the cytoplasm and nucleus of many cell types (1-4). Activated Penetratin™ 1 is sold ready for coupling to peptides or oligos containing thiol (-SH) functions. Biotinylated Activated Penetratin™ 1 possesses a biotin group at the C-terminal end allowing the detection of the internalized molecule with an appropriate avidin or streptavidin reagent.
Applications
- Introduce inhibitory peptides into the nucleus and cytoplasm of cells
- Introduce pharmacologically active substances into cultured cells
- Use antisense oligonucleotides or peptide nucleic acids to disrupt gene activity
- Block receptors in the cell nucleus
