Pen-Ray® UV Light Sources
By UVPPen-Ray® Lamps are low pressure, cold cathode UV lamps made of double bore quartz tubing. This design allows the electrodes to be positioned at one end of the lamp providing easy access into small apertures. Depending on the lamp characteristics, primarily the lighted length, the power requirement to the lamp can range from 2 to 20 watts and produce from 40 µW/cm2 to over 20 mW/cm2. Features include:
- Isolated spectral lines for calibration purposes
- Slower solarization of the quartz tubing
- Contamination free internal environment for superior quality and life of the lamp
- Increased stability of the emission for accuracy and reproducibility
- Typical useful lamp life of 2000-8000 (depends on lamp type)
- Miniature lamp size: As small as 1.85in(47mm) with a lighted length of approximately 0.04in (1.02mm)
- Cool burning compared to higher pressure lamps
- Variable energy output option based on current and components
Standard light source models are available with a variety of characteristics.
Rare Gas Lamps stock designs incorporate the Pen-Ray® 11SC-1 body but replace the Mercury for other reactive ingredients. Gases available include Argon, Krypton, Neon, Xenon and Neon-Mercury. Gas combinations and alternative body designs are also available as custom products.
Zinc and Cadmium Lamps are designed primarily for use with the UV absorption cells and detectors and are frequently used in air pollution monitoring devices. Zinc lamps can also substitute for deuterium lamps in some applications due to the zinc lamps' superior thermal stability, long life and prominent 214nm energy peak. The electrical leads enter the lamp base at the perimeter of the base. Lead lengths are also optional.
Ozone Generators produce a continuous flow of ozone as well as a stable source for water purification and air pollution studies. Designed for calibration of field and laboratory ozone analyzers. The stable ozone generator utilizes the photochemical reaction of oxygen under shortwave (185nm) UV to produce a continuous flow of ozone. A power supply (included with all models) feeds reliable and stable power to the lamps providing uniform ozone generation. Ozone Generators are a stable oxidant source for instrument development and for aging and testing of materials. They incorporate Pen-Ray® Lamps which are inserted into the generator box and can be removed and used in other applications.
Field Packs combine a Pen-Ray® UV light source and a DC power supply (with 9V battery) in a compact, portable package. Field Packs are lightweight (0.3 lbs) and small enough to fit in a pocket or to be carried by the belt clip attached to the power supply. Available with a choice of options for customization or in three standard configurations. Part number 49-95-0256-03 provides two interchangeable light sources (365nm and 254nm). Lamp connector is located on the outside of the power supply for this configuration only. Other configurations come with the light source permanently connected to the power supply.
