Application: | Starbons: Cooking up Nanostructured Mesoporous Materials |
Application: | Carbon, mesoporous can be used in the fabrication of optoelectronic and energy storage devices such as supercapacitor, and lithium ion batteries. It can also be used in the formation of a hybrid support that acts as a green tool for water purification. It is a surface tunable material that finds usage in chromatography, catalysis and environmental remediation. |
Application: | Starbons may be used as a stationary phase for liquid chromatography and as solid support for precious metal catalyst. Starbon supported Pd catalyst was used in a model Heck reaction of iodobenzene. |

General description: | Starbons™ are mesoporous carbons synthesized by the carbonization of expanded mesoporous starch at high temperatures. Amylose and amylopectin polymer chains in starch self assemble to form large mesoporous structures. Starbons™ exhibit tunable surface energies and high volume. It can be readily functionalized. The unique features are hydrophobicity, graphite-like surface and chemical inertness. |
