Application: | They are promising ceramic electrolytes for solid oxide fuel cells operating at low temperatures of 500-700°C (IT-SOFC). Doped ceria interlayers in between bulk yttria-stabilized zirconia electrolyte further enhance the performance of SOFCs. |
Application: | YDC-20 can be used as an electrolyte in the fabrication of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). A thin film of YDC-20 (~17.5 nm) effectively reduces the cathode/interfacial energy by 0.1 eV and increases the exchange current density by a factor of 4. It can be operated with a temperature range of 300° - 500°C. |

Yttria doped ceria exhibits high ionic conductivity, low activation energy and small grain boundary resistance. The effect of microstructure on the electrolytic properties was investigated in detail. |
