Application: Phenol may be employed for the isolation of deoxyribonucleic acid from Bacillus subtilis. It may be used in the Berthelot color reaction for the quantitative estimation of ammonia.

• As a phase-transfer catalyst in electrolyte solutions of lithium-O2 battery to promote solution phase discharge.
• Preparation of phenol-sulfuric acid reagent for colorimetric determination of total sugar content.
