| General description: | Allura red AC (E29) is a mono azo dye, added as a synthetic colorant to various drinks, juices, bakery, meat, and sweets products. It has been approved for use as a food additive by European Union (EU) Register as per Annex I of Directive 94/36/EC. The USA Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved its use in food, drugs, and cosmetics as a substitution for amaranth (Red 2) and erythrosine (Red 3). It is commonly known as Food Red No. 40 and Food, Drug, and Cosmetics Red No. 40 (FD&C Red No. 40). |
