Application: | • Nutrient Agar is used for the routine cultivation of microorganisms not requiring specific nutritional requirements • It is also used for the enumeration and enrichment of bacteria • Nutrient Agar can be used as a base for preparing special culture media. |
Footnote: | We offer two media types: the superior granulated GranuCult® and the cost-efficient powdered NutriSelect® culture media, depending on your needs. The designations basic, plus, or prime are added to indicate the quality control level, from basic quality control to standard QC plus to prime for full regulatory compliance. |
General description: | Nutrient medium is a general basic culture medium for less fastidious microorganisms. Meat extract, yeast extract and peptone provide nitrogen, vitamins, amino acids and carbon for growth. Sodium Chloride ensure osmotic balance. Thus, when adding blood, as supplement the blood cells will not rupture. Addition of 10% different biological fluids such as blood, serum and egg yolk makes it suitable for the cultivation of related fastidious organism. Acc. to Gray et al. the addition of 0.05% potassium tellurite makes the Nutrient medium an excellent enrichment medium for Listeria monocytogenes. |
