General description: γ-Butyrolactone (GBL) is a related lactone analog of γ-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), a widespread drug of abuse, identified as an endogenous constituent of the mammalian brain, in which it exhibits a strong central nervous system depressant effect. GBL is considered as a legal substitute of GHB, and commonly identified in beverages including coffee, apple cider vinegar, tea, carbonated drinks, etc.
