| Application: | Traditionally used to precipitate protein. Has been used to determine protein concentration by quantitative precipitation. Used as decalcifier and fixative in microscopy. |
| Application: | Trichloroacetic acid may be used in the following studies: • Estimation of phosphorus in various biological samples (serum, urine and stool ash solutions). • Elimination of acid-soluble and lipid phosphorous during the determination of deoxyribonucleic acid, ribonucleic acid and phosphoproteins in animal tissues. • Preparation of 2-methyl-4-nitroanilinium trichloroacetate trichloroacetic acid (2M4NATCA) crystals. 10% Trichloroacetic acid may be employed for the preparation of radioactive proteins. |
| General description: | Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is a chlorinated acetic acid. It is one of the major metabolites of trichloroethylene (TCE). |
| Other Notes: | Protein denaturant. |
