| Application: | Brilliant Blue G has been used for determining the urine protein concentration. It has been used for the protein band detection after SDS-PAGE (sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis). It has been used as a P2X7R (purinergic receptor) antagonist. |
| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Brilliant Blue G is used for staining protein(s) in polyacrylamide gels. It is also a P2X7 purinergic receptor antagonist. The receptor is mainly involved in neuroinflammatory events. In human SOD1G93A amyotrophic lateral sclerosis mouse, administration of brilliant blue G reduces body weight loss. However, it does not affect survival or motor coordination in transgenic mice. |
