| Application: | Phloxine B has been used to trace the uptake of double stranded RNA by green peach aphids. It has also been used to stain yeast strains. |
| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Phloxine B has been demonstrated as an alternative to Gram staining. It was found to inhibit the growth of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Phloxine B stimulated and inhibited the channel activity of wild-type cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR). It has antibacterial properties. Phloxine B staining can be used to distinguish between gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. |
