Features and Benefits: We have a vast portfolio of environmental PT schemes with "fit-for-purpose" samples to help you meet the needs of the laboratory.

Our proficiency testing (PT) program is a benchmark to:

• provide staff with an insight into their laboratory′s performance, to verify the accuracy and reliability of their testing process
• provide a comparison of performance with that of other laboratories, nationally and internationally
• test and educate staff, provide a better understanding of the impact of incorrect results and identify areas where there may be problems
• provide an independent evaluation of laboratory performance
• demonstrate to clients, colleagues and accreditation bodies that there is a commitment to quality

General description: Minerals - WP proficiency testing material is produced in accordance with ISO/IEC 17043:2010. Also referred to as non-Potable Water or Water Pollution sample, this product is produced according to TNI requirements. However, please note, this sample may include non-TNI analytes as well. The higher criteria from the TNI tables mimic the levels common to wastewater samples. The PT portfolio allows our test components to offer significant performance data to monitor and prove competency to customers, accreditation bodies or both.

Supelco® is a global proficiency testing (PT) provider that manufactures best-in-class environmental and pharmaceutical PT products. Most water PT samples are available as concentrates or ready-to-use volumes giving the end-user flexibility in selecting samples that will fit their exact needs. Our WP program is designed to meet the quality assurance requirements in compliance with Discharge Monitoring Report - Quality Assurance Program (DMR-QA), thereby ensuring the analytical competence of your laboratory.
These samples are typically provided in duplicate for use in case of lab mishap, for QC purposes, or to analyze multiple methods.

Packaging: This PT sample SAMPLE 1 and SAMPLE 2 are packaged as 20 mL concentrate. The solvent for this sample is water. The PT sample has been autoclaved for preservation.
Preparation Note: Description

• This PT sample is packaged as 2x20 mL concentrates.
• The solvent for this sample is water.
• The PT sample has been autoclaved for preservation.

Sample Preparation

• To prepare solution, partially fill a 1 L volumetric flask with reagent-grade water (near 20 ºC).
• Allow both ampules to equilibrate to room temperature and shake both samples well prior opening. Due to lower solubility at refrigeration temperatures the sample may show precipitate. The precipitate will go back into solution once the sample warms and is shaken.
• Open ampule SAMPLE 1 (be careful to avoid cuts on glass) and transfer 10.0 mL of concentrate to the volumetric flask.
• Open ampule SAMPLE 2 and transfer 10.0mL of concentrate to the same flask.
• Fill the flask to volume with reagent water.
• Mix well.
• The sample is now ready for immediate analysis.
• Determine alkalinity and spec. cond. first. If Ca, Mg, and hardness are not to be determined during the day the sample was prepared, acidify (pH<2) an aliquot of the freshly prepared sample with nitric acid for later analysis.
• For other determinations, this solution is stable for at least a month if adequately stoppered.
• NOTE: Alkalinity results may be biased if a blank correction is not applied. To compensate for the 980 mL of reagent water used to dilute the 20 mL of ampule contents, titrate an aliquot of reagent water (use the same volume as sample analysis); subtract 98% of the required titrant from that measured for the sample.
• NOTE: Ampule 1 contains hardness, calcium, and magnesium. For these analytes ampule 1 can be diluted by itself 10 mL to 1000 mL. For all of the other analytes the above instructions must be followed.
Storage and Stability: Please refer to sample label for expiration date, specific storage temperature and specific storage conditions.
