Analysis Note: | These secondary standards offer multi-traceability to the USP, EP (PhEur) and BP primary standards, where they are available. |
Application: | Ascorbic Acid may be used as a pharmaceutical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in pharmaceutical formulations using hydrophilic interaction chromatography. |
Biochem/physiol Actions: | Ascorbic Acid, also known as Vitamin C, is a six-carbon lactone produced by plants and some animal species but not by humans and other primates. Ascorbic acid functions as an enzymatic cofactor for multiple enzymes, serving as an electron donor for monooxygenases and dioxygenases. Ascorbic acid also functions as a powerful antioxidant, particularly in regards to reactive oxygen species. |

General description: | Pharmaceutical secondary standards for application in quality control, provide pharma laboratories and manufacturers with a convenient and cost-effective alternative to the preparation of in-house working standards. Ascorbic acid is a powerful antioxidant and is widely used in pharmaceutical formulations. It has proven to have a beneficial effect on age-related diseases such as cancer, atherosclerosis, ocular, neurodegenerative diseases, etc. It is mainly involved in the formation and maintenance of collagen. The prolonged deficiency of ascorbic acid in diet may result in scurvy. |
Other Notes: | This Certified Reference Material (CRM) is produced and certified in accordance with ISO 17034 and ISO/IEC 17025. All information regarding the use of this CRM can be found on the certificate of analysis. |
