Application: | VOAs in Soil - Medium Level - PT is a soil/hazardous waste proficiency testing material, suitable for testing volatile organics in soil samples. Our soil PT samples behave as real samples; and, unless there is no alternative, are not simply spikes added to a blank soil. They are designed to meet the requirements of national, regional and state-specific accreditation bodies (TNI, USEPA, UKAS) for quality assurance and continuous improvement. Have any questions? Features and Benefits: | We have a vast portfolio of environmental PT schemes with "fit-for-purpose" samples to help you meet the needs of the laboratory. Our proficiency testing (PT) program is a benchmark to: • provide staff with an insight into their laboratory′s performance, to verify the accuracy and reliability of their testing process • provide a comparison of performance with that of other laboratories, nationally and internationally • test and educate staff, provide a better understanding of the impact of incorrect results and identify areas where there may be problems • provide an independent evaluation of laboratory performance • demonstrate to clients, colleagues and accreditation bodies that there is a commitment to quality |
General description: | VOAs in Soil - Medium Level - PT proficiency testing material is produced in accordance with ISO/IEC 17043:2010. This product is produced according to TNI requirements. However, please note, this sample may include non-TNI analytes as well. The PT portfolio allows our test components to offer significant performance data to monitor and prove competency to customers, accreditation bodies or both. Supelco® is a global proficiency testing (PT) provider that manufactures best-in-class environmental and pharmaceutical PT products. We are the world leader in the manufacturing of real-world soil, sediment and sewage sludge PT products. Type of PT Scheme: Solids/Soils/Hazardous Waste Matrix: Soil Analyte/s: Randomly contains a minimum 60% of the analytes listed. Values of analytes vary lot to lot. All information regarding the use of VOAs in Soil - Medium Level - PT can be found in the reporting packet which will be available to download at PT Portal ![]() |

Preparation Note: | Description NOTE: The reporting units have changed to μg/Kg for all analytes to meet TNI requirements. The concentrations have remained the same. • This standard consists of 25 g of soil containing volatile organics. • The soil has been chemically stabilized with 25 mL of methanol to minimize the degradation of the sample. • The evaluation of results will be based on study statistics as required by TNI standards. • This standard may not contain all the compounds listed on the Report Forms in accordance with TNI standards. For analytes not detected report a zero "0" or a "<" and your detection limit. • This PT sample is intended for methods USEPA SW846 Method 8240 and 8260 using methanol or purge and trap extraction (EPA 5030). Sample Preparation • The sample is provided pre-extracted with methanol as specified by USEPA Method 5030. • Shake sample for two minutes prior to sampling. • Using a gas-tight syringe, aliquot 100 μL of methanol extract and inject into your purge and trap vessel below the surface of 5 or 25 mL of organic-free water. Using more than 100 μL may exceed the trapping capacity and detector response of the purge and trap system. • After sampling, tightly reseal the vial ensuring there is no sample remaining between the vial rim, threads and cap. • Immediately complete other sample preparation according to your analytical procedures. • To calculate your results, use 25 g as the sample weight and 25 mL as the extraction volume. Report results as μg/kg. • Report on a wet weight basis, do not correct results for moisture content. • Provide all the requested information; note that the results of the analysis are to be reported on a wet weight basis. • The method used must be reported. |
