| General description: | Asporin, periodontal ligament-associated protein 1 (PLAP1), is a member of the family of small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family. Asporin is present in the cartilage extracellular matrix (ECM) where it plays a role in collagen mineralization. Asporin is involved in the mineralizaion of human dental pulp stem cells and predentin to dentin. Asporin inhibits bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2)-induced cytodifferentiation of periodontal ligament (PDL) cells and has been implicated in osteoarthritis. The previously assigned protein identifier Q5TBF3 has been merged into Q9BXN1. Full details can be found on the UniProt database. |
