Biochem/physiol Actions: C8 beta is one of the three subunits that comprise the component 8 (C8) of the complement system. C8 participates in the formation of Membrane Attack Complex that results in the lysis of cells. Patients with C8B deficiency are prone to bacteria infection.
Biochem/physiol Actions: C8B (C82) is the beta component that makes up the complement component 8 (C8) protein. The other two components are the alpha and the gamma subunits. C8 is one of the components of membrane attack complex that mediates cell lysis and enables the membrane penetration by the complex. C2B mediates the interaction of C8 and C5b-7 components of the membrane attack complex.
