Biochem/physiol Actions: | N-methylpurine-DNA glycosylase (MPG) is an enzyme that repairs the genome-wide damage caused by alkylating agents. MPG repairs the hypoxanthine that is formed by the deamination of adenine and 1,N6-ethenoadenine formed as a result of interaction of lipid peroxidation-derived aldehydes and hydroxyalkenals with DNA. A functional linkage between MPG and p53; MPG acting as the selective regulator of p53-mediated cell cycle arrest. |
