| Biochem/physiol Actions: | ASF1B [anti-silencing function 1 homolog B (S. cerevisiae)] gene encodes for a protein that belongs to H3/H4 family of histone chaperone proteins and facilitates the histone deposition as well as histone exchange and removal during nucleosome assembly and disassembly. ASF1B interacts with HCF-1 and regulates the progression of cellular DNA replication forks through chromatin reorganization. It also stimulates the viral DNA replication by combining Asf1b to DNA replication components. Additionally, depletion of both the histone chaperones ASF1a and ASF1b in human cells induces hallmark of alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT) in primary as well as cancer cells. |
