| Biochem/physiol Actions: | MMP23B (matrix metallopeptidase 23B) gene encodes a single-pass type II membrane protein that belongs to matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family and is expressed primarily in ovary, testis and prostate. Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family proteins facilitate the breakdown of extracellular matrix (ECM) components as well as processes cytokines and growth factors. Human MMP23B stimulates TNF shedding in a cell culture system. In zebrafish, Mmp23b plays a crucial role in augmenting liver development and hepatocyte proliferation via tumor necrosis factor pathway. |
