| Biochem/physiol Actions: | RTN4 (reticulon 4) gene is a member of reticulon encoding genes family. It is expressed in oligodendrocytes and predominantly associates with the endoplasmic reticulum. It is a component of CNS white matter that inhibits the axonal regeneration and induces collapse in dorsal root ganglion growth cones. Beta-secretase beta-site APP cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1), is a membrane-bound aspartyl protease that plays a pivotal role in the generation of amyloid beta-protein (Abeta). RTN4 interacts with BACE1 and blocks its activity. |
