| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Junctional adhesion molecule 3 (JAM3; JAM-C) is a protein localized at the tight junctions of endothelial cells and acts as a receptor for another JAM molecule. JAM3 is involved in the regulation of vascular permeability, angiogenesis and nerve function. Deficient expression of JAM3 results in severe hydrocephalus and development of tumors in murine models. JAM3 is involved in lymphangiogenesis and nodal metastasis in non-small cell lung cancer. It is also associated with melanoma cell metastasis. |

| General description: | The gene Junctional adhesion molecule 3 (JAM3; JAM-C) is mapped to human chromosme 11q25. JAM3 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein and contains Ig-like domains. It belongs to Ig-superfamily called as JAMs. JAM3 is widely expressed with predominant expression in placenta, brain and kidney. It is also expressed in platelets but not in other blood cells. |
