| Biochem/physiol Actions: | ATG16L1 (autophagy related 16-like 1) is an autophagy-related (ATG) protein. It plays an essential role as a component of the ATG12-ATG5-ATG16L1 complex during autophagy. It functions as a molecular scaffold to form the autophagosome in response to classical and pathogen-related autophagy stimuli. The complex introduces LC3 (ATG8 in yeast) to the autophagosome and connects it to the phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). This conjugation generates a membrane-bound activated form of LC3 named LC3-II. |
