| Biochem/physiol Actions: | FUCA1 gene encodes a lysosomal enzyme, α-L-fucosidase mapped on to chromosome 1 at position 1p34.1-1p36. α-L-fucosidase plays a crucial role in hydrolyzing the fucose-containing glycoproteins and glycolipids. Presence of α-L-fucosidase in preoperative serum serves as a prognostic indicator for hepatocellular carcinoma. Mutation in FUCA1 gene leads to fucosidosis, an autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disease. |
