| Biochem/physiol Actions: | The protein encoded by ACADSB (Acyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase, short/branched chain) gene belongs to acyl-CoA dehydrogenases (ACADs) family and is mapped on to chromosome 10 at 10q25-q26. It is a homotetramer with each monomer comprising of a non-covalently bound flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) molecule as a cofactor. It catalyzes the initial step of mitochondrial fatty acid β-oxidation for substrates with four and six carbons. ACADSB also catalyzes the third step of leucine and isoleucine/valine metabolism. Deficiency of the encoded protein increases 2-methylbutyrylglycine and 2-methylbutyrylcarnitine in blood and urine and results in catabolism of L-isoleucine. |
