Application: Chromogenic substrate for β-galactosidase producing a red or magenta insoluble product.
Application: Magenta-Gal has been used for staining synthetic cytoplasmic or nuclear LacZ mRNA. It has also been used to detect the expression of the EphB1-β-gal fusion protein. ,Magenta-Gal is suitable for use in the selection of recombinant bacterial colonies with the lac+ phenotype.
Biochem/physiol Actions: When Red-Gal is hydrolyzed by β-galactosidase, the resulting product will form a red precipitate. Lac+ colonies grown in the presence of Red-Gal turn an intense red color, allowing for easy differentiation between lac+ and lac- colonies.
General description: Red-Gal is a chromogenic substrate for β-galactosidase, used to determine the presence or absence of a cloned DNA insert in bacteria growing on agar plates. Red-Gal is designed to replace X-Gal in blue-white selection of recombinant bacterial colonies with the lac+ phenotype.
