| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Calpain small subunit 1 (Capns1) participates in the actin cytoskeleton rearrangement and cell migration events. It is crucial for embryonic development. Capns1 interacts with the Ras GTPase activating protein Src homology 3 domain (SH3) (RasGAP-SH3) domain to regulate cell migration and cell survival. It is essential for calpain activity. Capns1 is associated with the oncogenesis of many tumor types including hepatocellular, colorectal, ovarian, and breast cancer. |

| General description: | Calpain small subunit 1 (Capns1) is a small regulatory subunit associated with the μ-calpain (calpain 1) and m-calpain (calpain 2). The CAPNS1 gene is mapped to human chromosome 19q13.12. |
