Application: Dexamethasone 21-phosphate disodium salt has been used:
• as a positive control to study its effects on ocular shedding of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) in the induced reactivation (IR) and spontaneous shedding (SS) rabbit models
• as a receptor analog to study its effects on glucocorticoid receptor activation in suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN)-lesioned mice
• to study its protective effects against cisplatin-induced ototoxicity in the inner ear of guinea pigs
Biochem/physiol Actions: Dexamethasone 21-phosphate (Dex 21-P) is a pro-drug that can undergo dephosphorylation to form dexamethasone with the help of intra-erythrocyte enzymes. It exhibits therapeutic effects against cystic fibrosis and postoperative cataract. Dex 21-P disodium salt is a synthetic adrenal corticosteroid and possesses anti-inflammatory activity.
