| General description: | Media are supplemented with a defined mixture of nutrients, growth factors, and hormones instead of serum. A 1:1 mixture of Dulbecco′s Modified Eagle′s medium (DME) and Ham′s F-12 nutrient mixture is commonly used for these defined studies. To compensate for the loss of buffering capacity caused by eliminating serum, a final concentration of 15 mM HEPES buffer can be added to the formulations. It allows the investigator to optimize the buffering system. |
