General description: Esomeprazole is the (S)-isomer of omeprazole. It blocks the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme and lowers the release of hydrochloric acid by gastric parietal cells. Esomeprazole is used for treating gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
