Application: Used to eliminate enzyme inhibition by traces of heavy metals, and to inhibit enzymes that require divalent cations as cofactors. Iron-EDTA enhances damage due to reactive oxygen species, such as depletion of reduced glutathione, formation of methemoglobin, and lipid peroxidation.
