Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells stained with Filipin complex (F9765). Filipin complex was dissolved at 25 mg/mL in DMSO and was further diluted to a working solution at a concentration of 0.05 mg/mL in PBS/10%FBS. After fixation with paraformaldehyde cell were incubated for 2 hours with Filipin complex working solution and images were acquired using UV filter set (340-380 nm excitation, 40 nm dichroic, 430 nm long pass filter).

Filipin binds to membrane sterols such as cholesterol, and it both inhibits prion protein (PrP) endocytosis and causes the release of PrP from the plasma membrane. |
