| Application: | GAP-27 has been used as a blocking peptide for Cx43 (connexin 43) gap junctions in FDC (follicular dendritic cells)-B cell cultures. |
| Biochem/physiol Actions: | GAP-27 shares homology with a region of extracellular loops of connexins, and hence, is thought to inhibit junctions formed by the connexins Cx32, Cx40 and Cx43. It highly hinders co-operative cell-cell interactions including the synergized beating of embryonic cardiomyocytes. This peptide reduces osteoclastic activity and survival rates. This peptide significantly reduces acetylcholine-mediated hyperpolarization of smooth muscle cells. |
| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Inhibitor of gap junction signaling in endothelial cells. |
