| Biochem/physiol Actions: | α1-Acid Glycoprotein from bovine plasma is an acute phase protein. It has anti-inflammatory potential and its concentration increases several folds during injury. AGP increases the chemotactic activity and life span of monocytes and inhibits neutrophil degranulation. Serum AGP levels differentiates sepsis from systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). |
| General description: | α1-Acid Glycoprotein (AGP, orosomucoid) from bovine plasma belongs to ‘lipocalins′ family which binds and transports small hydrophobic molecules. AGP is further classified into the subfamily ‘immunocalins′ which immunomodulates the inflammatory reactions. AGP is primarily produced in the liver, in few extra hepatic tissues and is present in neutrophil granules. Healthy cattle possesses 0.3 mg of AGP/ ml of concentrated serum. |
