| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Heat shock protein family B (small) member (HSPB1) serves as an ATP-independent molecular chaperone. It can block the irreversible aggregation of bound substrates in vitro. HSPB1 plays a key role in the remodeling of cytoskeleton during embryogenesis. HSPB1 gene mutations lead to distal hereditary motor neuropathy type II (dHMN II) or Charcot-Marie-tooth disease type 2F (CMT2F). It is involved in metastasis formation. Due to its cytoprotective properties, HSPB1 plays a role in oncogenesis and resistance to anti-cancer therapy. |
