| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Sad1 and UNC84 domain containing 2 (SUN2) acts as a tumor suppressor by inhibiting the expression of glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1) and lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA) in lung cancer. Overexpression of the SUN2 gene leads to the inhibition of replication of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). |

| General description: | SUN2 (Sad1 and UNC84 domain containing 2) gene encodes a 85kDa inner nuclear membrane protein with the SUN domain localized to the periplasmic space between the inner and the outer nuclear membranes. It forms a bridge or a LINC complex across the nuclear envelope (NE) connecting NE to the cytoskeleton contributing to nuclear positioning and cellular rigidity. The N-terminus extends into the nucleoplasm. The C-terminal SUN domain that is in the perinuclear space associates with short, lumenal peptides of KASH domain containing membrane proteins of the outer nuclear membrane (ONM) to form a molecular link between the ONM and the inner nuclear membrane (INM). |
