| Biochem/physiol Actions: | SUMO-conjugating enzyme UBC9 is a protein encoded by the UBE2I gene in humans. It plays a key role in post-translation modification called sumoylation. It is considered as the sole conjugating enzyme for sumoylation that regulates protein function and plays an important role in tumorigenesis. Sumoylated proteins function in many cellular processes including cell growth, maintaining the genome integrity and stability and cancer development. The protein is expressed at higher levels in primary lung cancer tissue and metastatic nodules as compared to premalignant and/or normal tissue. Up-regulation of this gene expression promotes migration and invasion. It may play an important role in cancer progression by promoting invasion and metastasis in lung cancer. |
