The protein encoded by this gene is a pro-inflammatory cytokine and is implicated in the pathogenesis of a number of inflammatory diseases. It is a immunomodulatory cytokine that plays an important role in cellular functions against tumor development and progression. It is a key cytokine responsible for immune response and involved in the process of cancer development. |
