| Biochem/physiol Actions: | MAP3K4 (mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase 4) gene encodes a component of protein kinase signal transduction cascade. It is also called as MTK1 and phosphorylates and activates a specific MAPK kinase (MAPKK) in the cascade through phosphorylation of conserved threonine and/or serine residues. It contains a protein kinase catalytic domain at the C terminus and a regulatory/autoinhibitory domain at the N-terminus. GADD45 proteins interact with and free the autoinhibitory domain from the kinase domain, thus activating MTK1. It mediates the activation of p38 MAPK pathway and the JNK pathway induced by environmental stresses. |
