| Biochem/physiol Actions: | CASQ1 (calsequestrin 1) gene encodes a protein localized in the sarcoplasmic reticulum of fast-twitch skeletal muscle cells. It functions as a calcium storage protein regulating calcium flux via calcium channel activity control and interaction with other proteins present in the sarcoplasmic reticulum. The calcium that is released into the cytosol from the sarcoplasmic reticulum regulates the expression of GLUT4 and glucose transport in muscle. Mutations in this gene may affect insulin action on glucose uptake and glycogen synthesis in skeletal muscle and increase susceptibility to type 2 diabetes. |
| Features and Benefits: | Prestige Antibodies® are highly characterized and extensively validated antibodies with the added benefit of all available characterization data for each target being accessible via the Human Protein Atlas portal linked just below the product name at the top of this page. The uniqueness and low cross-reactivity of the Prestige Antibodies® to other proteins are due to a thorough selection of antigen regions, affinity purification, and stringent selection. Prestige antigen controls are available for every corresponding Prestige Antibody and can be found in the linkage section. Every Prestige Antibody is tested in the following ways: • IHC tissue array of 44 normal human tissues and 20 of the most common cancer type tissues. • Protein array of 364 human recombinant protein fragments. |
| General description: | CASQ1 (calsequestrin 1) gene encodes a member of the calsequestrin protein family. The gene is mapped to human chromosome 1q21, a region that has been associated with type 2 diabetes in certain populations. |
