| Biochem/physiol Actions: | BTN3A3 (butyrophilin, subfamily 3, member A3) gene encodes a member of the butyrophilin (BTN) family, the members of which are major histocompatibility complex (MHC)-associated genes. These genes encode type I membrane proteins containing two extracellular immunoglobulin (Ig) domains and an intracellular B30.2 (PRYSPRY) domain. BTN3A3 is expressed on endothelial cells, in the membrane layer surrounding milk fat-secreting droplet from mammary epithelial cells, on immune cells, and on some tumor cell lines. It may be involved in the proliferation of CD4+ and CD8+ and in the cytokine secretion by T-cells. It may function as a co-stimulatory molecule on CD4+ T cells and NK (Natural Killer) cells. |
