| Biochem/physiol Actions: | TRAF5 (TNF receptor-associated factor 5) gene encodes a scaffold protein that mediates TNF-induced activation by binding to the cytoplasmic domains of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor. It is expressed along with Lymphotoxin-β receptor in visceral organs and serves as a signal transducer for this receptor. It is found to associate with the cytoplasmic tail of CD40 and mediate its signaling, which is important in B-cell function. It also mediates the TNF (Tumor necrosis factor)-induced activation of NF-κB, a transcriptional factor involved in the regulation of several inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and adhesion molecules, and plays a role in protection from cell death. |
