| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Cell adhesion molecule-related, downregulated by oncogenes (CDON) acts as a tumor suppressor gene in neuroblastomas. It acts as a high potential therapeutic target for PCa (prostate cancer). CDON functions as a receptor in SHH (sonic hedgehog) signaling pathway involved in neural crest cell fate during embryonic development. It is also known to activate apoptotic process in the absence of SHH pathway. CDO protein enhances myocardium formation of pluripotent stem cells. Nonsense mutation of CDON gene involved in SHH signaling will lead to congenital defect called as holoprosencephaly (HPE). CDO associates with co-receptor BOC (brother of CDO[cell adhesion molecule, down-regulated by oncogenes)] by mutually linking their internal domains and ectodomains. This complex is involved in the regulation of myogenic differentiation. |
