| General description: | The gene cerebellar degeneration-related protein-2 (CDR2) has been mapped to human chromosome 16p12.3. The gene encodes a cytoplasmic protein harboring a helix-leucine zipper motif. CDR2 is localized in the cytoplasm. The mRNA is ubiquitously expressed in adult mouse tissue with most abundance in the testis. However, the protein is present predominantly in brain, testis, gynecological and breast tumors, suggesting post-transcriptional regulation. CDR2 is cell cycle regulated in tumor cells with highest expression in mitosis. |
