| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Ubiquitin interaction motif containing 1 (UIMC1) functions as repressor for the nuclear receptor, retinoid-related, testis-associated receptor (RTR). It coordinates the placement of breast cancer type 1 susceptibility protein (BRCA1) in the site of DNA damage. Mutations in UIMC1 leads to impairment of BRCA1 mediated DNA repair and is implicated in breast cancer. |

| General description: | Ubiquitin interaction motif containing 1 (UIMC1), also called receptor-associated protein 8 (RAP80), is a transcriptional activator protein. It encodes a 79.6 kDa protein and is localised in nucleus. It is highly expressed in testis. UIMC1 contains a nuclear localization signal and two zinc fingers at the C-terminus. It has tandem ubiquitin interacting motifs (UIMs). The UIMC1 gene is located on human chromosome 5q35.2. |
