| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Serine and arginine rich splicing factor 5 (SRSF5) is a major splicing regulator of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) mRNA. It functions as a potential diagnostic marker for small-cell lung cancer and pleural metastatic cancer. Increased expression of SRSF5 boosts lamin A mRNA production in HeLa cells and fibroblasts of patients with hutchinson gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS), which is a rare genetic disease leading to accelerated aging. Thus, this protein acts as a potential therapeutic perspective for premature aging. |
