No. A5420), was probed to detect Human IgM by indirect ELISA. Reactivity is observed with Human IgM but not with Human IgG, Human IgA, Human (K+L), Mouse IgG and Rat IgG.

| Biochem/physiol Actions: | Immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies are the primary ones to be produced in response to antigen. They bind with low affinity but exhibit a broad specificity to a variety of antigens. IgM constitutes 15% of adult immunoglobulins. IgM is important for fetal and neonatal host defenses for several reasons. IgM molecule efficiently activates classical pathway of complement. Its pentameric structure helps in accomodating multivalent ligand binding. IgM has a prominent role in clearance of invading microorganisms from serum. |
