Application: Jack beans has been used in the extraction of Concanavalin A (Con A) lectin.
Biochem/physiol Actions: Jack beans may be used as a "crude urease." Jack beans (Canavalia ensiformis) is a potential source of protein and local feed ingredient. It contains essential amino acids. Jack bean is also rich in phenol, isoflavones, niacin, saponins, and fibre and possesses hypocholesterolemic properties.
Other Notes: One unit will liberate 1.0 micromole of ammonia from urea per minute at pH 7.0 at 25 deg C.
