Application: Use in cell culture applications to study prolactin regulation of cell signaling and gene expression.
Biochem/physiol Actions: Neuroendocrine hormone; belongs to the cytokine hematopoietic receptor family; induces lactation; inhibits secretion of gonadotropins; release is inhibited by dopamine.
Biochem/physiol Actions: Prolactin is a neuroendocrine hormone. The prolactin receptor is a transmembrane glycoprotein that belongs to the cytokine hematopoietic receptor family. A large number of cells and organs express the receptor, including B cells, T cells, macrophages, monocytes, and neutrophils. Prolactin signal transduction involves the JAK/STAT families and the src kinase family. Induces lactation; inhibits secretion of gonadotropins; release is inhibited by dopamine.
Other Notes: Contains an N-terminal methionine not present in the natural product.
Physical form: Lyophilized from a solution in 10 mM phosphate and 50 mM sodium chloride, pH 8.0.
Preparation Note: It is recommended that sterile 4 mM HCl containing 1 mg/mL bovine serum albumin be added to the vial to prepare a stock solution of no less than 100 μg/mL.
