Application: L-Leucine has been used:

• as a hypertrophic agent to monitor its effects on myotubes.
• as a component of PMG media for culturing yeast.
• in myotube protein synthesis analysis in skeletal muscle cells.
• to study its effects on hepatic lipid metabolism.
Biochem/physiol Actions: Leucine plays a role in intracellular signaling, gene transcription, and translation. It promotes the synthesis of protein by activating the mammalian target of the rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway in placental cells, skeletal muscles, and adipose tissue. Leucine inhibits protein degradation and promotes mitochondrial biogenesis, glucose metabolism, and fatty acid oxidation to provide energy for protein synthesis.
General description: Leucine is a non-glucogenic, and essential amino acid. It is a branched-chain amino acid that is a structural component of proteins.
